David Hammer - 30 years of legal experience in civil, corporate, criminal, family, and municipal law.  


David graduated from William & Mary College, Marshall Wythe School of Law, in 1988 and began his legal career in Clarksburg, WV.

Martinsburg welcomed David in 1992 as he set up his own law firm, along with partners Joe Ferretti and Bob Schiavoni.  The law firm of Hammer, Ferretti & Schiavoni has been a mainstay on King Street ever since.

A popular speaker, David has lectured on various topics including handicap discrimination, race and gender discrimination, and sexual harassment.  He has also authored several articles and editorials including:

  • "West Virginia Acts to Protect Seniors", Spirit of Jefferson, 2016.
  • "Despite Contract, Uncertainty Persist for Horse Racing", Spirit of Jefferson, July 8, 2015.



David is admitted to the:

  • West Virginia Supreme Court, 1988.
  • U.S. District Court, Northern District of West Virginia, 1988.
  • U.S. District Court, Southern District of West Virginia, 1988.
  • U.S. Court of Appeals 4th Circuit, 1991.
  • U.S. Supreme Court, 1997.


David is also a member of several professional associations including:

  • West Virginia State Bar, 1988 - present.

          President, 1997.
          Chair, Amicus Curiae Committee, 2011 - 2012.

          Immediate past President.


David's professional honors include:

  • Super Lawyer - Top Rated Employment & Labor,  2007 - present.
  • West Virginia Supreme Court - Appointed to serve as a plaintiff's representative for the Employment Law Jury Instruction Project.
  • West Virginia Associates for Justice - President's Award for Outstanding Service to WVAJ and its members, 2011.


David has lived in Jefferson County since 1996 with his wife Euphemia Kallas and their three children.  His community involvement includes:

  • Commissioner, Jefferson County Planning Commission, 2000-2003.
  • AYSO soccer coach and referee, 2011 - present.
  • Izaak Walton League, Jefferson County Chapter, member,  2014 - present.
